The BCCI has released the schedule for Women's Premier League (WPL) 2024 after the completion of the WPL Auction held in Mumbai.

Five teams Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore and UP Warriorz, have bought some of the top talents from the international and domestic circuit in the inaugural edition of the Women's Premier League.

Women's IPL (WPL) Auction 2023 Players List

The first season will be played in 2023 in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai with five franchises taking part.

The Women's Premier League 2023 will be held from March 4 to March 26, 2023, and will have five teams playing 22 matches at the Brabourne and DY Patil Stadiums in Mumbai, with each team having a maximum of five overseas players, one of whom must be from an ICC Associate Nation.

In future seasons the purse size for each franchise will be increased by ₹1.5 crore (US$190,000) each year.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has secured a huge Rs. 4669.99 Crores while auctioning the 5 franchises at the newly launched Women’s Premier League. The five Women’s IPL 2023 franchises were purchased by the Adani group, Reliance, Diageo India, JSW-GMR and Capri Global for Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Delhi and Lucknow respectively.

Women’s IPL 2023 Player auction & Price Bid 

The first players' auction to purchase players for each franchise was held on 13 February 2023 at Mumbai. Around 1,500 players registered their names for the first auction. Each franchise had ₹12 crore (US$1.5 million) to spend and had to purchase between 15 and 18 players, seven of whom could be overseas players.

The base price of an uncapped player at the first auction was between ₹10 lakh (US$13,000) and ₹20 lakh (US$25,000). For capped players it was between ₹30 lakh (US$38,000) and ₹50 lakh (US$63,000).

Women’s IPL 2023 Format

Five teams will compete against each other in a double round-robin league that will then be followed by the play-off stage of the competition.

The competition is scheduled to run across the month of March will fixtures still to be confirmed.

Women’s IPL 2023 Broadcast Deal

Indian network Viacom18 paid INR 951 crore (US$117.5 million) for the media rights to the inaugural competition making it one of the most valuable T20 leagues in the world. The deal runs for five years from 2023-27 with matches broadcast on the Sports18 TV channel and live-streamed on the JioCinema app.
